New Woods Lore Features
Two new features are going to be included in upcoming issues of the Woods Lore. The first will be a new column to Meet Your Neighbors.
If you would like to be featured in this column, please contact the board president through email. A board member has volunteered to interview a neighbor for each issue of the newsletter. You will be put in touch with this volunteer to help create your article for a future issue of the Woods Lore.
This feature begins this month. Look for the interview in this issue with your neighbor, Valerie Belkot.
The second new feature will advertise services provided by neighbors. Neighborhood Services will include such services as lawn mowing, handyman services, babysitting, pet sitting, snow shoveling, etc.
If you would like to advertise in future editions of the Woods Lore, please contact the board.
Graduation
Graduation is just around the corner for Brookside Woods seniors. This has been a difficult year for students, so let’s make it a special occasion for Brookside Woods graduating residents.
Last year the graduation parade was a lot of fun for everyone. The BWCA board is seeking volunteers to organize the 2021 Brookside Woods Graduation Parade. If you would like to volunteer, please email the board.
A suggestion was also made to purchase a sign or banner with each graduating senior’s name. If you have a son or daughter who will graduate this year and would like to be included on a sign, please contact the board at the email address above.
Spring Gardening Tips
by Kari Riskedahl
In addition to your favorite flowers, plant a few native plants (Dense Blazingstar, Lance Coreopsis, Partridge
Peas are some of many!) in your garden beds. They’ll attract bees and butterflies to your garden and be part
of the buffet our pollinators sorely need.
Planting lettuce? Some varieties perform much better in colder temperatures than others. Good spring lettuce varieties include ‘Black Seeded Simpson’ and ‘Royal Oak Leaf ’.
Consider adding a perennial vegetable to your garden. Asparagus and rhubarb are spring vegetables that once established, can provide decades of tasty treats.
Parsley and Dill are host plants to black swallowtail caterpillars. Go ahead and plant a few extra of each
with the intention of letting these colorful caterpillars eat them to grow and become butterflies.

remember to lock your car, remove any valuables, remove anything from site that may tempt burglars
and do not leave keys anywhere in your car.If you have questions or concerns regarding neighborhood safety, our Block Watch Captain is John Chartkoff. You can email: or call him at 850-902-1147
