(07/2022)

Timeline

Stage 1:

Removal of dead landscaping, clean up, and transplanting. This will give the designer a better idea of what we have to work with.

Stage 2:

Designer rendering of landscape design. We will be given an opportunity to revise to arrive at a final draft.

Stage 3:

Fundraising!! We will be able to more successfully fundraise once we have a design rendering to share with residents.

Stage 4:

Execute design!

Stage 5:

Update signage at 161 entrance?

Q: Why do we need to cleanup before redesigning?

Dead Trees

All dead landscaping would be removed and stumps would be ground.

A picture of a dead tree from one of the entrances. There are no leafs and growth on the tree, surrounded by lush greens in the daylight.

Unhealthy Trees

Unhealthy trees can be trimmed or treated. Sometimes the trimming of surrounding trees provides sunlight to struggling trees, which can really help!

Overgrown

All six locations are severally overgrown.

Random Plants

Neighbors have added some of their own plants to help out, which is so sweet! However, if they don’t fit the design we will offer them to residents for their own yard.

  • Provide some symmetry between facing locations

Homeowners’ Approval

Homeowners at all six locations have given us approval to make updates. Homeowners will be given to opportunity to approve the final design

Funding

Help from the BWCA Board: Maybe we can get creative and find some funds?!

Neighborhood Fundraising: This will take some work, but I think we can be successful!

Grants: I’m looking into grants through the Franklin Park Conservatory and the City of Columbus

Ideas for consideration:

161 Entrance:

Clean up, clear out, keep existing signage, highlight existing stone wall and up-lit trees with low-cost, tasteful LED lighting. Repaint signage to a more tasteful color scheme that matches the Snouffer entrance.

Snouffer:

Clean up, clear out, add some updated plants/trees, update lighting, repaint sign to match 161 entrance.

Thistlewood entrance:

Clean up, clear out, add some updated plants/trees, add lighting, repaint letters.
